Ivy House Stables offers a range of expert, specialised services from their AI Centre.

Emma Greenland is a DEFRA Approved AI Technician and offers the services of semen collection from Ivy House Stables stallions, as well as insemination from outside stallions, and semen freezing in conjunction with West Kington Stud.

Advantages of Artificial Insemination:

  • Risk of injury is reduced, to stallion, mare and handlers
  • Stress is reduced, especially to mares with foals at foot.
  • Spread of disease is controlled.
  • It opens up the market of a wider range of stallions from far and wide.
  • Travelling mares and keeping them away at stud is not necessary.
  • For stallion owners it can be vital in keeping their temperament calm, especially with competing stallions.

Mares & Insemination

Ivy House Stables provides mare insemination with fresh, chilled or frozen semen. Mare Insemination is carried out in partnership with Frame, Swift and Partners Veterinary Practice who are onsite 5-6 times weekly, for scanning and routine stud work. 

Semen Collection

Semen collections are achieved using a purpose built dummy mare, which is on site at Ivy House Stables. Following collection the semen is immediately analysed in the onsite laboratory. 

Dummy training is also available, which is provided on site by Emma Greenland.

Vet Packages

Our vets also provide mare owners with a selection of ‘Stud Packages’ from fresh, chilled and frozen semen. Please contact Emma for rates of this service.

Semen Freezing Days

Semen Freezing Evaluation Days are held throughout the year in conjunction with Tessa Clarke, West Kington Stud and Martin Boyle MRCVS. This opens up an opportunity for Northern based stallion owners to have their stallion semen assessed nearer to home to see if semen is viable for freezing.
